Pair of French Silver 3-Light Candelabra, Dated circa 1860

£5,750.00

Pair of French silver 3-light candelabra, dated circa 1860.
Decorated with classical maidens and typical French engine turning with swags on the bases.
The maidens are cast as well as the feet and scrolls holding the top capitals and sconce.
The hallmark on them is Mercurys head in an octagon which was from 1840-1879, and was an export mark for large
silver articles. We have put a circa date of 1860 because of the style and craftsmanship.
The gross weight is 66 ounces, but they have a small amount of loading in the dome just under each maidens feet
which goes down 1 inch to a screwed in base underneath.
This I imagine is so they are stabile on any surface.
There are oval discs on the base of each one for a crest or initials.
